Full-Year Program for 5 years of age.

For dancers 5 years of age, Preschool introduces the foundations of tap, jazz, ballet, and acro in one structured, age-appropriate program. Dancers develop coordination, musicality, gross and fine motor control, focus, teamwork, and the ability to follow instruction while beginning to build technique across four dance disciplines. As the final stage of Dance Discovery’s Primary Program, Preschool helps prepare young dancers for continued training as they move into our programs for school-aged dancers.

To build our dancers confidence and celebrate their achievements, Preschool dancers perform in two professional stage performances in the season; A Winter Recital in January as well as a Year End Recital in June.

Access to a private classroom app for each individual class is also part of your program enrollment! Monthly video posts will allow you to stay updated on what we have been working on in class and assist parents in staying connected to their child’s dance journey. We will also use the app to provide reminders on important updates or events happening within the studio that are specific to your program.

BUILDING FOUNDATIONS FOR
WHAT COMES NEXT

At age five, Preschool dancers begin developing skills that provide a foundation for continued training in several dance disciplines.

In tap, dancers work on foundational skills that prepare them for future progression through the Al Gilbert tap syllabus. Ballet instruction begins preparing dancers for continued training using the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus, while jazz introduces the technique and movement foundations they will build on in future classes. In acro, dancers begin working through foundational skills based on the Acrobatic Arts program.

By introducing these four disciplines together, dancers can experience different styles of movement while developing the coordination, musicality, technique, and classroom skills that will support their next stage of dance training.

COST
Preschool is a one hour weekly class at $848 annually. Your annual fee includes your lessons for the term and your recital costume! Fees are payable in 4 installments; full details on payment procedures can be found on our policies page.

SESSION
Preschool is part of our Full-Year Program; the next session will commence September 12, 2026 and conclude June 12, 2027.

PRESCHOOL DANCE FAQs

No. Previous dance experience is not required. Preschool is designed to introduce five-year-old dancers to foundational skills in tap, jazz, ballet, and acro while preparing them for continued dance training.

Preschool dancers study four disciplines: tap, jazz, ballet, and acro. Each style introduces different movement and technical foundations while helping dancers develop coordination, musicality, body awareness, and confidence.

At age five, dancers are ready to begin experiencing a broader range of dance techniques. Introducing tap, jazz, ballet, and acro allows children to discover different ways of moving while building a well-rounded foundation for future training.

Regular classes are closed to parent viewing so dancers can focus on their instructor and participate independently. Parents are invited to four scheduled Watch Weeks throughout the season, and families receive regular progress updates through their private classroom app.

Yes. Preschool dancers participate in both our Winter Recital in January and Year End Recital in June, giving them two opportunities to share what they have learned on a professional stage.
