Hip Hop Totz

Full-Year Program for 4-5 years of age.

For dancers 4 and 5 years of age, Hip Hop Totz is a high-energy introduction to hip hop designed specifically for young dancers. Students explore foundational hip hop movement, including elements of freestyle, popping, and locking, while developing body awareness, coordination, flexibility, musicality, focus, and the ability to follow instruction. Structured classroom activities also help dancers build teamwork skills and confidence while experiencing the energy and creativity of hip hop. Hip Hop Totz is part of Dance Discovery’s Primary Program for dancers ages 3–5.

To build our dancers confidence and celebrate their achievements, Hip Hop Totz perform in two professional stage performances in the season: A Winter Recital in January as well as a Year End Recital in June.

Access to a private classroom app for each individual class is also part of your program enrollment! Monthly video posts will allow you to stay updated on what we have been working on in class and assist parents in staying connected to their child’s dance journey. We will also use the app to provide reminders on important updates or events happening within the studio that are specific to your program.

HIP HOP FOR YOUNG DANCERS

Hip Hop Totz gives children an opportunity to begin dance through an energetic style of movement and music. It can be a great fit for young dancers who enjoy moving, rhythm, and a faster-paced class environment.

Dancers do not need ballet or previous dance training before joining Hip Hop Totz. Ballet can provide a valuable technical foundation as dancers progress, but it is not required to begin this Primary hip hop program. Families interested in learning more about hip hop and the other styles we teach can explore our dance disciplines page.

As dancers learn new movements and combinations, they also work on listening to music, remembering choreography, coordinating their bodies, following instruction, and working alongside their classmates.

Students must be 4-5 years of age by March 1, 2027

COST
Hip Hop Totz is a 30 min weekly class at $748 annually. Your annual fee includes your lessons for the term and your recital costume! Fees are payable in 4 installments; full details on payment procedures can be found on our policies page.

SESSION
Hip Hop Totz is part of our Full-Year Program; the next session will commence September 12, 2026 and conclude June 12, 2027.

HIP HOP TOTZ FAQs

No. Hip Hop Totz is designed as an introduction to hip hop for children ages 4–5, and previous dance experience is not required.

No. Children can begin Hip Hop Totz without previous ballet training. Ballet can provide a valuable technical foundation as dancers progress, but it is not required to begin this Primary hip hop program.

Dancers are introduced to foundational hip hop movement, including elements of freestyle, popping, and locking. Classes also develop body awareness, coordination, flexibility, musicality, focus, teamwork, and the ability to follow instruction.

Regular classes are closed to parent viewing so dancers can focus on their instructor and participate independently. Parents are invited to four scheduled Watch Weeks throughout the season, and families receive regular progress updates through their private classroom app.

Yes. Hip Hop Totz dancers participate in both our Winter Recital in January and Year End Recital in June, giving them two opportunities to share what they have learned on a professional stage.
